Engineered Plastics

By Ames Direct

We offer a vast array of engineered plastics in semi-finished form including rod, sheet, tube and profiles.

These materials available include:

  • Polyurethane
  • PET
  • Extruded nylon
  • Acetal
  • PTFE
  • Polycarbonate
  • Acrylic
  • PEEK
  • Cast nylon
  • PVC
  • HDPE

In a variety of formats including:

  • Rod
  • Sheet
  • Tube
  • Custom cast sizes

Engineered plastics offer excellent weight, longevity, lubrication, noise and chemical resistance properties over steel, however, care must be taken to ensure the right plastic is chosen for the particular use. We will assist in material selection to ensure you get the most from your investment.

Specialising in versatile plastics

We specialise in the supply of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), polyurethane and cast nylons because of their versatility.

UHMWPE – Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene

Our most diversified product with extensive properties designed to enhance your production and save you maintenance costs. UHMWPE is six times more abrasion-resistant than steel, and is virtually unbreakable. It has a low co-efficient of friction,
absorbs no water, is impervious to most chemicals and is environmentally friendly containing no harsh chemicals. Request our specific UHMWPE Brochure for more information.

Polyurethanes are a cost effective alternative to materials such as rubber and steel. Polyurethane elastomers have outstanding abrasion, cut, tear and impact resistance, and are lighter than steel. In most cases polyurethane will outlast metal components, especially where parts are subject to abrasive materials. Resistance to corrosion is another attractive feature. Request our specific Polyurethane Brochure for more information.

Cast nylon
Our own cast nylon brand of AmlonTM is a premium grade monomer cast nylon produced by a unique process resulting in a highly crystalline engineering plastic, which means a tougher, wear-resistant material. It is superior to many other cast nylons available.

AmlonTM is the preferred material where issues have resulted from abrasive wear, impact strength, bearing strength, noise, weight and corrosion. Request our specific AmlonTM Brochure for more information.
