LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) sensor

By Bestech Australia

Thanks to the differntial transformer design, LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) sensors have very stable output signals. The LVDTs are designed for a wide range of industrial and scientific position feedback or measurement applications. Their most advantage is high repeatability once configured. LVDT shows the exact same measurement on restarting after power outage, therefore, no positional information will be lost. Furthermore, apart from the uni-axial linear motion of the magnetic core, any other movements such as the rotation of the core around the axis will not affect its measurements as the moving core does not contact the inside of the stainless steel housing tube and it moves without friction, thus, making the LVDT a highly reliable target contact-type sensor. The absence of any sliding or rotating friction allows the coil windings to be sealed against the hostile environments.

The distinct advantage of using an LVDT displacement transducer is that the moving core does not make contact with other electrical components of the assembly as so offers high reliability and long life. LVDTs are ideal for a wide range of applications where minimum mechanical friction is required.

Highlights:
Unlimited mechanical life and friction free operation (friction free);
Infinite resolution and repeatability (electromagnetic coupling principle);
Single axis sensitivity (responds only to the motion of the core);
Separable coil and core;
Environmentally robust (rugged hermetically sealed for hazardous locations);
Absolute output (no data lost during power failure);
High temperature to 250 ℃;
High pressure to 20,000 psi;
Analogue I/O for PLC compatability
