Spitwater Australia has been manufacturing in Albury in southern NSW for more than 27 years.
Since its humble beginnings this 100 per cent Australian-owned family business has embarked on a continuous program of expansion and capital investment to improve production capability and capacity.
The company’s success is obvious in the strong and steadily increasing presence of Spitwater products throughout Australia and internationally.
The Spitwater Australia factory is situated on a 5-acre site with about 15,000sqm of manufacturing space ‘under roof.’
Spitwater employs 40 full-time staff as well as a number of local labour hire personnel.
As a leader in the industrial equipment market, Spitwater Australia currently designs and manufactures three product lines.
These include a complete range of commercial and industrial high-pressure water cleaners under the Spitwater brand as well as a full range of LPG and diesel/ kerosene industrial space heaters under the Jetfire and Spitfire brands.
“Spitwater Australia is the only true manufacturing company of its line of products in Australia and we aim to do as much onsite in our own factory as possible,” says Andrea Martinotti, general manager and son of the company’s founders.
The idea of building products from the ground up is something that has always beenactively fostered by the company. At a time when many organisations are moving offshore, outsourcing or simply importing the finished product, Spitwater Australia has consciously brought many production processes in-house, ensuring a truly Australian made product.
“Manufacturing components internally has improved product quality and has simultaneously reduced production times and parts inventories,” says Andrea.
"We use sophisticated robotic welding, computer-controlled combined laser cutting and turret punching. These and other state-of-the-art operations such as our fully automated powder coating plant all contribute to the high build quality of our products.
“In many cases we hold only raw stock, such as brass rod and sheet metal, rather than numerous high cost pre-formed or machined components that all have slightly different specifications.”
The popularity of Spitwater’s products in the local and international market is proof that manufacturing in Australia can be successful.
Spitwater Australia’s new product development is undertaken internally by its own engineering department. During this process machines are designed, prototyped and fully tested before being brought into production at Albury – you can’t get more Australian than that.
Having the resources to conceive and build the latest models in their own factory means that Spitwater can uniquely respond to customer needs with the most appropriate products for the market. It also means that customised units can be built on request for clients with highly specialised applications.
Spitwater Australia’s approach to manufacturing has rewarded the company with constant growth. The domestic Australian market is looked after by factory backed distribution and service centres in the major capital cities and there is an extensive dealer network Australia wide. Internationally Spitwater is building on an impressive 27 years of strong demand and currently exports to 20 countries on four continents.
