New compact gas detector
Crowcon’s new IRmax is an ultra-compact infrared (IR) gas detector delivering rapid, fail-safe detection of hydrocarbon gases with very low power consumption.
Now available from KD Fisher & Co, the IRmax is easy to install in even the most inaccessible locations.
It is much smaller and lighter (1.6 to 2.4kg) than comparable IR detectors and offers a wide range of pipe mounting bracket kits, sunshade cum collector canopy, and HVAC duct mounting kits.
Featuring dual-wavelength IR sensor technology in a rugged 316 stainless steel package, IRmax is designed to operate in the harshest conditions in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +75°C.
Unlike conventional IR gas detectors, IRmax does not use heaters to prevent condensation on windows and mirrors – instead it has unique Stay-Clir optical components that are treated with a highly durable coating that prevents faults due to condensation.
And because IRmax contains no components for artificially heating optical surfaces, power consumption is dramatically reduced – the device requires only 1W of power – 75-90 per cent lower than conventional IR gas detectors.
IRmax detectors require smaller and lower cost power supplies and battery back-up systems.
Also, low power consumption means longer cables can be used and more detectors can be powered on addressable networks.
A fast T90 response time of just four seconds is possible because of a compact diffusion gas chamber in combination with an effective weatherproof cap. The weatherproof cap also enables remote gassing and calibration of the detector without requiring a special calibration cap and without the need for scaffolding or cherry-pickers to access the detector.
The “IRmax” is available in 4 versions:
- As a basic unit without display
- With an optional Fixed IR Display, which can be fitted directly to the detector
- With a Remote IR Display mounted up to 30m away to enable checking and calibration of detectors situated in remote or inaccessible areas.
- With provision for a portable Hand-Held IS Calibrator that can be temporarily connected to any IRmax which has the IS Barrier Module fitted.
ATEX and IECEx certified for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas, IRmax features optional HART or RS485 Modbus communications and complies with the IEC61508 functional safety standard to SIL-2.
