Low-maintenance pump system saves money and energy

A newly developed low-maintenance pump system using Gorman-Rupp self-priming pumps is now available in Australia.

The new system reduces capital costs and delivers big energy savings for the life of the installation.

The “secret” to the system is simple.

Rather than two pumps pumping in parallel, the Gorman-Rupp Super T series or Ultra V Series pumps are used with a piping system that allows a “duty/standby” pump combination to operate in series when the “lag” pump is called upon.

“When a duty/standby pumping system is required, the two pumps in the system alternate, says Garry Grant of Hydro Innovations, Australian representatives of Gorman-Rupp Pumps.

“To duplicate this in a parallel pumping system, motors would need to be larger and a VFD would need to be used on both pumps,” he says.

Maintenance costs are reduced throughout the life of the pumps (when compared with other pump types).

This is because pumps are mounted “high and dry” above the wet well, enabling operators easy access, with no confined spaces issues to worry about.
