Jacob a bright spark for graduation Hasemer group

Like many young men, Jacob Solomon was not sure what he wanted to do after leaving school and so he decided to just take on a job and see where it would lead him.

However, it was not long after starting as a Warehouse Assistant in 2006 with Hasemer Materials Handling that he found he had a passion for electrical/mechanical work.

Jacob, who is the grandson of founder Trevor Hasemer, took an interest in helping assemble and repair the vast array of hoist brands that Hasemer services whenever he
had the opportunity.

Not long after, he approached management to undertake an Electrical Apprenticeship which Hasemer fully supported.

Jacob continued to gain valuable on the job training and experience at Hasemer while pursuing his studies. He helped maintain, repair and install cranes, hoists and other lifting equipment.

According to John Ward, Division Manager, Hasemer Materials Handling, the company has always had a strong policy of supporting and helping to develop apprentices.

“Training and mentoring young apprentices allows us to instil in young people a great
understanding of our work as well as quality skills, said Ward.

“It also helps us to maintain continuity when providing service excellence which we are fully committed to.”

In May, TAFE NSW - Northern Sydney Institute awarded Jacob the highest mark after his Capstone examination on electrical theory.

“I feel I’ve had an advantage over other apprentices because as far as I’m concerned I’ve been learning from and working with the best, says Jacob.

“The specialist technicians at Hasemer have a real eye for detail and a great understanding of the equipment and how it works, he says. “All work is done to a high standard and they take great pride in what they do. It’s a terrific environment in which to be learning.”

Jacob will complete his practical exam, which allows him to demonstrate the skills he has acquired over the last four years, before entering his trade as a Service Technician.

‘I hope to stay with the Hasemer group once I’ve finished my apprenticeship and
continue learning,” says Jacob.
