Dean Woodward wasn’t sure what he wanted to do when he finished high school, but he knew he wanted to be a tradie.
He had a look at the courses that were available, and tried out both welding and fitter machining. Dean soon realised that welding fabrication was the right fit for him, and began an apprenticeship with Broens Industries.
At the same time he was enrolled in an Engineering – Fabrication Trade Certificate III course at TAFE NSW – South Western Sydney Institute.
Dean has both passion and natural ability for the fabrication trade. He has worked on armour plating for defence vehicles, aluminium telescopic walkways for the mining industry and tools for the aerospace industry.
Dean was named the 2011 Apprentice of the Year in the South Western Sydney Region and a finalist for the 2011 NSW Apprentice of the Year Award.
Dean is now head fabricator at Broens, has a first year apprentice working with him and is enjoying the opportunity to pass on his skills and knowledge.
Dean says that the quality of his training was fantastic, and is confident that his qualifications and experiences will provide him with great opportunities in the future.
