Apprentice Ty Borlace, the 2009 AiGTS Chairman’s Award winner, has a bright future ahead in his chosen field of Electrotechnology.
Ty, who completed his training in November last year after a four-year apprenticeship, is now completing an Advanced Diploma in Engineering.
“Ty has been an excellent role model for other apprentices and an excellent ambassador for AiGTS,” says AiGTS Chairman Doug Loveless.
Ty not only won the 2009 AiGTS Chairman’s Award, he was also named AiGTS Apprentice of the Year for SA/WA and was the 2009 Apprentice of the Year – SA Group Training Awards.
He was also a finalist for Apprentice of the Year at the 2009 National Group Training Awards and a winner of the Apprentice of the Year at the 2009 SA Training Awards.
Since he began his training in December 2005, with assistance from AiGTS, it was evident Ty had the qualities needed to become a top tradesperson.
His excellent interpersonal communication skills, willingness to learn and his positive attitude not only impressed his trade school instructors but also his “on the job” mentors at his host company’s work place, SAGE Automation in SA.
Ty is a motivated person showing a willingness to participate in career activities in secondary schools, apprentice forums and OHS forums.
In the third stage of his apprenticeship he became an apprentice board adviser attending board meetings. During this period he was awarded the TAFE SA North scholarship program and in his last year he was awarded the President’s prize.
Ty participated in the World Skill Competition SA Adelaide Region 2009 winning a gold medal, unfortunately he was deemed to be over the age limit at the time of the event.
“Ty’s work performance has been first class,” said Mr Loveless. “He has taking on challenges in working with the latest technology and the demands of quality assurance policy and processes.
“We wish him well in his future endeavours.”
