WHAT WILL 2016 BRING FOR AUSTRALIAN MANUFACTURERS?

As 2015 draws to a close, Australian manufacturers have every reason to feel confident about the year ahead.

The Australian dollar has fallen after stubborn record highs, providing much needed relief for the export sector.

At the same time interest rates are at all time lows and business confidence is on the rise again.

Under new leadership the federal government is firmly focussed on promoting an “innovation nation.”

Our new Industry Minister Christopher Pyne and Assistant Minister for Innovation Wyatt Roy have embraced their new portfolios with great enthusiasm.

We look forward to new policies that will stimulate and revitalise the manufacturing sector.

Manufacturers can approach the New Year with great optimism.

A ground breaking report released recently by the CSIRO has found that Australia is well placed to secure prosperity over the coming decades – despite the challenges of an uncertain and possible resource constrained future.

The report, The Australian National Outlook, is based on work undertaken by a team of 40 CSIRO experts and university collaborators, and draws extensively on observed data and analysis.

Australia’s future will be shaped by innovation and technology, the report predicts.

However, it warns that the choices we make as a society will be paramount.
CSIRO Executive Director Dr Alex Wonhas says the key to Australia’s success will be innovation and application of smart technologies.

The past year has not been an easy one for many industrial sectors.

But Australian manufacturers have always shown great resilience in the face of adversity.

Industry Update will continue to support local industry in 2016 – and we wish all manufacturers every success.

I take this opportunity to thank all our readers and advertisers a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
