The compact and rollable igus e-chain spool system can be used wherever cables have to be moved safely in the tightest of spaces. These applications include in auditoriums, on oil platforms or in process cranes.
The e-chain spool system is an alternative to the classic cable drum, and can be used to carry not only energy, but also other media such as data, compressed air and liquids.
A standard e-chain, which is guided by a guide roller, always ensures the correct length, and the tension of the e-chain system is maintained by an integrated retaining spring. An igus twister band handles rotational movement, making movement in all directions possible. The e-spool does not need an expensive slip ring, and so all sorts of cables can be continuously connected in a confined space, and also be added or replaced at any time.
The latest generation e-spool extends to 21m and covers the gap between the spring-driven standard e-spool for extension lengths up to 14m and the motorised e-spool for large projects, for example in opera houses or the offshore sector.
The new system has a larger twister band for a higher filling. And to compensate for the payload and extension length, the structure of the e-spool provides more bracing, a more stable all-enclosing body and a reinforced floor plate as a retraction safeguard. In order to withstand the higher forces, the developers opted for an optimised mechanism for adjusting the spring force.
The new e-spool series is available either as a spring-driven version with two HD springs or as a motor-driven version with a built-in stationary motor.
