NEW DEMATIC SYSTEM THE TOP PICK FOR TOSHIBA

Leading electronics and consumer goods distributor Toshiba (Australia) Pty Limited is implementing the first Dematic Modular Goods-to-Person (mGTP) system in Australia at its new national distribution centre at Pemulwuy in Sydney’s western suburbs.
Dematic’s mGTP system is a pre-engineered and pre-configured order fulfilment solution, which reduces overall project costs and lead times, enabling rapid installation and start-up.
Stock for orders will be retrieved from an automated Dematic Multishuttle inventory buffer at a rate of up to 500 totes per hour and delivered to the mGTP picking station ensuring very high productivity and throughput rates.
The mGTP picking station is dual purpose, enabling it to also be used for replenishing stock to the inventory buffer when picking is not required.
Dematic’s Systems Solution Manager, Darren Rawlinson, said: “Toshiba recognised the need for a solution that provides their business with space-effectiveness and flexibility. We have designed a system that can be expanded with an additional aisle at a later stage, doubling their system capacity.”
Toshiba’s National Distribution Centre Manager Gavin Ogilvie said: “The mGTP will provide significant productivity gains and hard cost savings with a calculated ROI payback of 18 months to two years”.
Dematic is also fitting out Toshiba’s new warehouse with a 10m high ColbyRACK pallet storage system, which will provide capacity for 5,800 pallets.
Smart logistics IT systems including Dematic iQ software and Zebra RF equipment will be included in the solution.
The DC is scheduled to open by mid-2016.
