NEED A WELDER? BUSICOM SOLUTIONS OFFERS THE BEST OF THE BEST

Alex Zalghout, co-founder of Busicom Solutions, a specialist provider of mechanical trade labour and welding services to the Australian Industrial Sector, is not your average boss.
A former electrical engineer, this innovative young entrepreneur likes to think outside the square.
When he first launched his business about 10 years ago he couldn’t work out why he was getting negative feedback from a handful of clients.
After all, the welding staff he provided all carried certificates which meant they could handle the job.
But then Alex had a light bulb moment.
Though they had a piece of paper saying they were qualified, it was no guarantee they had been adequately trained for the task at hand.
“That was the thing that was missing – the most important component of the whole recruitment cycle,” Alex admits.
So he set about developing a new business strategy, which brought a high level of welding expertise in-house. New systems and technology was deployed and processes and procedures were re-evaluated.
At the same time, a stronger focus on quality as well as OHS&E systems was implemented.
A key component of the new strategy was the launch of an inspections and training facility. Through this fully equipped facility at Kingsgrove in Sydney, Busicom conducts practical testing of tradesmen, welder qualification and the development of weld procedures.
This means the competency of each worker on the books can now be gauged.
A full assessment is carried out on each job candidate by a certified, internationally recognised welding inspector.
“It is no ordinary test … with this test we are able to determine their levels of competency and guarantee employers they have attained a certain benchmark, says Alex. “That has been a huge investment for the company.”
But the results have been staggering.
Alex has now set a new benchmark for labour hire companies.
“There are 3,386 labour hire companies in Australia and none of them offer the same stringent training program, he says proudly.
“That’s our point of difference.”
By delivering fully trained and highly competent workers Busicom has been able to fill a void in the marketplace.
Alex says he does not want to be categorized as ‘just another’ labour hire company.
“The level of service we can provide is not the same as all those other companies, he says. The service we provide is certification. If you need a guy to be certified to a certain qualification, we can deliver.”
Busicom Solutions tests the competency of all welders including boilermakers, pipe fitters, fabricators, mechanical fitters, industrial electricians, riggers and, as required, other specialised engineering trades.
The company has 25 full-time employees at its Kingsgrove headquarters and between 250-350 qualified welders on its books throughout Australia.
“We also have a database of more than 10,000 qualified tradespeople we have built up over the years.”
Busicom provides highly-qualified and industry recognised mechanical and welding trade teams to support time critical client projects and shutdowns.
The company offers a tailored solution to fit a client’s needs.
“We provide a total solution – a one-stop shop – this is a distinctive advantage,” says Alex. “We exceed client expectations.”
Major clients past and present include Bluescope Steel, Joy Global, Visy and McConnell Dowell Corp.
Busicom will design and implement Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) programs for welding skills, inspections, procedural testing and technical support to clients.
And safety remains a key focus.
“The culture we try to create and foster in the workplace is a ‘zero harm’ policy.
