RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents PLC, has signed a global distribution agreement with Digilent Inc., a world leader in academic and research technology solutions.

The agreement further augments the extensive portfolio of semiconductors and tools stocked by RS from a wide range of leading semiconductor vendors. The deal provides access to a wide range of popular FPGA and microcontroller development boards, JTAG programmers and a range of microcontroller peripheral application boards and portable instruments.

This range of competitively priced and easy-to-use products also includes highly flexible form factor solutions, which assist RS customers to accelerate their development cycles while increasing product quality.

“This agreement with Digilent represents an excellent source of tools for embedded development, which complements the RS offer for over a million customers. It delivers on our ‘Digital FAE’ promise to our suppliers, to our DesignSpark community and to RS University customers, allowing them to comprehensively equip their design benches,” said Jon Boxall, Head of Semiconductors at RS.

“It will enable our customers to simplify and accelerate their product development cycles and ease rapid prototyping.”

“As well as being a world-renowned distributor with excellent customer services and a class-leading global product delivery infrastructure, this deal with RS will mean a wider audience for our products in new markets, especially industrial and educational customers,” said Steve Johnson, President at Digilent.

Digilent has partnered with different leading semiconductor companies including Xilinx, Microchip, Analog Devices, Texas Instruments and Imagination Technologies to bring products with the latest embedded and electronics technology. Their products can be found in over 1000 universities in more than 70 countries. In addition to the hardware, Digilent offers resources including teaching material, sample labs, and shared curriculums that enable educators to teach the latest technology.
