Cost effective way to buy a PLC

It is imperative to find the most cost effective solution when buying computer hardware.

The globalization of many Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) company support systems is a factor that must be taken into account.

A further attributing factor is the pricing policy variation of hardware in different countries, depending upon various demographics (the price of PLCs was already higher in Australia).

A PLC is a digital computer used for automation of electromechanical processes, such as control of machinery on factory assembly lines.

PLCs are currently used in broad range of Australian industries.

PLC Hardware Pty Ltd is a Sydney-based company established two years ago to import PLC Hardware. Since then the company has enjoyed exceptional growth.

PLC Hardware specialises in industrial automation equipment including:

  • PLC programming software
  • Automation controllers
  • Programmable logic controllers
  • Soft PLC's
  • Distributed I/O units
  • Drives
  • HMI's
  • SCADA software

PLC Hardware seeks fairer, more equal and viable ways of purchasing expensive non-bulky items, suitable for air shipment, namely PLC’s.

“We were frustrated at the local pricing policy, it was biased towards big companies with their own projects departments,” says PLC Hardware owner David Askew.

“We were also disappointed by the lack of specialized product knowledge at local sales offices, but didn’t really think there was an alternative, he says.

“We didn’t realize there was an option. At first we thought it was illegal to buy from overseas – and that the goods would be unsupported or defective in some way. That just wasn’t the case. Although initially we did find several sharks/suppliers that were unreliable, our supply chain is now first rate.”

“For example, we are not limited to one vendor and held to one area, says Mr Askew.

“But I think the main reason is price. With savings of about 50 per cent there is an increasing number of companies prepared to use imported hardware. In terms of growth we passed $1million in revenue within our first four months.”
